South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) has appointed Ashfaq Yousuf Tola as its new president. 

Tola is a past president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP). 

Tola’s career spans more than three decades. He brings to the current position his expertise in tax planning, assurance, and international mergers and acquisitions, among others. 

He has helped in the formation of SAFA’s Economic Advisory Committee and served as its first chairman.  

Tola is also a member of the Policy Board at the Ministry of Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives in Pakistan and has held various leadership roles within ICAP. 

Meanwhile, Mohammed Humayun Kabir, with more than 42 years of professional experience, has been appointed as the vice-president of SAFA for the year 2025, effective 1 January 2025.

Kabir is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) and has a background in fiscal laws, financial management, and corporate governance. 

He has held numerous positions within ICAB, including vice-president and president, and has been involved in SAFA’s Accounting and Auditing standards committee.  

His international exposure includes representing ICAB at International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) general assembly meetings around the globe. 

Both Tola and Kabir have contributed to the committees and task forces of SAFA.  

SAFA, as a network partner of IFAC, represents 11 accountancy bodies from countries such as India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, as well as Nepal, Maldives and Afghanistan.
