The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) has appointed several new members to its Investor Advisory Group (IAG) and Standards and Emerging Issues Advisory Group (SEIAG).

These appointments are part of the PCAOB’s ongoing efforts to incorporate investors’ perspectives and address emerging issues in the accountancy sector.

PCAOB chair Erica Williams said: “Advisory groups bring insightful and valuable feedback to the PCAOB to support our investor-protection mission.

“We thank all IAG and SEIAG members for their willingness to serve and for sharing their valuable time and perspectives with us.”

The IAG provides the PCAOB insights from an investor’s viewpoint.

The group’s primary mission is to safeguard investor interests and promote public confidence in the accuracy and independence of audit reports.

The new appointees for 2025, with terms expiring on 31 December 2026, include Steven Grey, Satyam Khanna, Jeffrey Mahoney, Amy Copeland McGarrity, Sandra Peters, Nemit Shroff, and Gary Walsh.

Additionally, Steven Lipiner has been appointed for a one-year term ending on 31 December 2025, filling a vacancy left by a member who departed before their term concluded.

Similarly, the SEIAG is tasked with advising on current and proposed standards, potential new standards, and significant emerging issues that impact the PCAOB’s work.

This group’s advice ensures that investor interests are protected through informative and independent audit reports.

The 2025 SEIAG appointments, also with terms expiring on 31 December 2026, include Preeti Choudhary, Brian Croteau, James Freis, Jr., Robert Hirth, Jr., Jeffrey Mahoney, Jamila Abston Mayfield, and Sandra J. Peters, among others.

Earlier in March 2025, the PCAOB took disciplinary action against nine firms within the KPMG network for violations of rules and standards, including lapses in quality control.

The firms facing sanctions are KPMG Australia, KPMG Brazil, KPMG Canada, KPMG Israel, KPMG Italy, KPMG Mexico, KPMG Samjong, KPMG Switzerland, and KPMG UK.
