The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) has accredited the Institute of Accounting Science (IAS) for its postgraduate diploma in accountancy programme making it the first South African private provider to receive the accreditation.
Effective as of January 2018 with the first intake of students, the accreditation means that students successfully graduating from the diploma will have access to SAICA’s initial test of competence.
SAICA senior executive for professional development Mandi Oliver explained: “In its role in promoting quality assurance in accounting education, and in terms of its current recognition and standing with the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors, one of SAICA’s key roles is to accredit programmes which then allows students access to SAICA’s Initial Test of Competence (ITC).”
IAS head Gary Swartz added: “The IAS philosophy is to contribute to the CA(SA) landscape by offering an alternative route to the public Universities, similar to a private schooling model. We have designed a revolutionary programme that is designed to move with the changing educational and technological landscape.”
