The Indiana CPA Society has partnered with the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), to launch a new initiative aimed at increasing the number of black students pursuing careers in accounting in central Indiana, US, reported WISH-TV.
This collaboration is set to address talent pipeline and workforce development challenges within the region’s CPA profession and expose Indianapolis-area students from various backgrounds to the profession.
Indiana CPA Society president and CEO Courtney Kincaid emphasised the importance of the initiative.
She said: “We’re really excited about the opportunity to scale the program through this initiative.”
The society has been actively working on this issue for some years, with their Accounting Careers Awareness Program (ACAP) targeting high school and college students for an in-depth, week-long focus on the profession.
The programme is seen as a strategic pathway to building a workforce that not only supports Indiana businesses but also contributes to the state’s long-term success.
NABA also plans to establish an office in Indianapolis, further solidifying the partnership.
NABA is a nonprofit organisation dedicated to closing the opportunity gap for Black business leaders in accounting, finance, business, and entrepreneurship, representing more than 20,000 professionals in these fields.
This partnership announcement follows the recent INCPAS Awards, which recognised CPAs and related professionals in Indiana for 2024.
The finalists and honourees for all categories were selected by the INCPAS Awards Committee, which includes members of the Board of Directors.
The Indiana CPA Society represents nearly 6,000 current and aspiring CPAs and related professionals who are actively transforming business in Indiana.
