The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) has introduced a complimentary sustainability e-learning programme for chartered accountants.
The Sustainability Accelerator Programme is designed to provide practical skills and technical expertise necessary for effective sustainability and ESG reporting.
The programme includes more than 50 hours of content, segmented into manageable portions, and is available at no cost to ICAEW members.
It aims to simplify complex sustainability topics for finance professionals across various levels, enabling them to integrate sustainability into reporting, strategy, and decision-making processes.
Comprising five main units, the programme addresses sustainability aspects.
This encompasses introduction to sustainability, building the business case, sustainability reporting and decision-making, strategy and risk management, and sustainability assurance.

Black Skies sustainability expert and founder Blue Saywell authored the Sustainability Accelerator Programme.
She noted the need for a “bespoke” approach to sustainability training for chartered accountants.
The programme also includes an updated version of the ICAEW Sustainability Certificate as its first unit.
It aims to embed sustainability competencies into the core of accountancy training.
ICAEW Sustainability director Richard Spencer said: “The ICAEW Sustainability Accelerator is not about turning our members into sustainability experts, but rather about future-proofing their careers.
“It focuses on managing risk and providing the necessary tools and resources to help businesses navigate the complexities of sustainability, ultimately leading to a more resilient and prosperous future.”
This initiative comes after ICAEW informed businesses that, starting 31 January 2025, a safety and security declaration is required for all goods imported from the European Union to Great Britain.
