American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) has appointed Catherine Halie Creps, an audit partner at KPMG, as the new chair of the Auditing Standards Board (ASB), its principal committee.
Creps, who is part of KPMG’s Department of Professional Practice, will commence her new role at the end of May, succeeding Sara Lord of RSM US.
Creps brings more than two decades of experience to the position, including her time at KPMG focusing on emerging audit and accounting issues, as well as her former role as a practice fellow at the Financial Accounting Standards Board.
During her three-year tenure as an ASB member, Creps led projects, particularly those related to attestation engagements.
The ASB is responsible for issuing standards for auditing private companies, setting quality management standards for practitioners, and developing attestation standards.
Additionally, it provides practice guidance for performing audit and attestation engagements under AICPA standards.
AICPA chief auditor Jennifer Burns said: “Halie has the right skills and expertise to extend the record of strong leadership we’ve had at the ASB.
“Emerging areas of assurance, the expanding use of new technologies, and the current pace of standard-setting make it more critical than ever for the board to have strategic oversight.”
Alongside Creps, seven new members will join the ASB at the end of May 2025.
The incoming members are Michael Brand, Heather Funsch, Nora Kilaghbian, Carole McNees, Christine Quintana, G. Alan Skinner, and Daniel Trujillo.
Earlier in March 2025, AICPA released a discussion memorandum inviting public comments on proposed changes to the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct.
The proposed amendments focus on updating independence rules in response to the increasing trend of private equity investments in accounting firms and alternative practice structures.
