University graduates without an accountancy background will now be able to qualify as chartered accountants of Singapore as part of foundation programme launched by The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).
Up to now Singapore qualification programme (Singapore QP) was only open to candidates with an accredited accountancy degree. But as of July 2013, the ICAEW foundation programme will allow graduates from other disciplines to undertake the professional programme component of the Singapore QP.
The six months programme is designed to develop the basic technical knowledge and skills required by the accounting profession. Graduates will be offered the option of distance learning with online modules.
"We are delighted to have launched the foundation programme, which will make it possible for bright, hardworking young people without an accredited accountancy degree to qualify as Chartered Accountants of Singapore," Mark Billington regional director ICAEW Singapore said.
"This will help ensure that the very best candidates with the right skills and aptitudes can enter the accountancy industry, regardless of their background," Billington added.
