The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) has appointed Sandra Mundy as a non-lay member of its regulatory board, effective from 12 March 2025, for a three-year term.

The ICAEW Regulatory Board (IRB) oversees the organisation’s regulatory and disciplinary functions to ensure they serve the public interest and reinforce trust in the profession.

The board maintains an equal representation of lay members and chartered accountants, a structure introduced in 2014 following an independent review of ICAEW’s regulatory governance.

This framework was designed to strengthen the separation between the organisation’s representative and regulatory functions.

A chartered accountant, Sandra Mundy is a licensed Insolvency Practitioner, who specialises in restructuring and insolvency.

She has been serving as a partner at James Cowper Kreston since 2009, where she leads the firm’s turnaround restructuring and insolvency team.

Additionally, Mundy is a member of James Cowper Kreston’s strategy committee.

Mundy’s experience with ICAEW is extensive, having previously participated in the organisation’s Restructuring and Insolvency advisory group.

More recently, she served on the Appeals Committee from 2018 to 2024.

Commenting on the appointment, Mundy said: “Ensuring public confidence in the accountancy profession is of utmost importance to me.

“I am committed to working collaboratively with my fellow Board members to uphold the required high standards, and strengthen trust and confidence across the profession.”

In December 2024, ICAEW announced the departure of Sharron Gunn, following the decision to remove the chief operating officer (COO) role from its organisational structure.

The organisation also launched a new category within its technology accreditation scheme, focusing on client communications in November 2024.

Established in 1880, ICAEW has over 208,000 members and students globally.

It collaborates with governments, regulators, and business leaders and oversees approximately 12,000 firms.

ICAEW is also a founding member of Chartered Accountants Worldwide, a network connecting more than 1.8 million chartered accountants and students across more than 190 countries.
