The IFRS Foundation has announced the appointment of three new Trustees, enhancing the Foundation’s geographic diversity and professional expertise.  

These appointments, effective immediately for a three-year term, include leaders from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. 

The Trustees oversee the strategy, governance, and oversight of the Foundation, which includes the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB). 

Wisayah Investment Management Company CEO Sheila Alrowaily and a veteran at Saudi Aramco since 1998, is among the new Trustees.  

Alrowaily has helped in establishing Wisayah and has served as the CEO since 2019.  

She has a background in finance, trading, investment, and risk management and has board memberships, including the Saudi Central Bank and Hassana Investment Company.

Shixin Chen brings experience from his stint as the vice president of Asian Development Bank (ADB), where he guided operations in line with goals such as the Paris Agreement.  

His previous roles include senior positions within China’s Ministry of Finance and directorships at various development banks, including the World Bank Group. 

Assietou Diouf, the first CEO of VaxSen, contributes her broad experience in finance across public and private sectors.  

Her previous roles include CFO at Gavi, the vaccine alliance, and Programming, Budgeting, Finance, and Accounting director at the African Union.  

Diouf is also actively involved with the Steering Committee for International Financial Reporting for Non-profit Organisations. 

The new Trustees replace Sarah Al Suhaimi, Wencai Zhang, and Suresh Kana.  

Additionally, the IFRS Foundation has re-appointed Jorge Familiar and Keiko Tashiro for a second term.  

These appointments have been ratified by the IFRS Foundation Monitoring Board, which maintains a formal connection between the Trustees and public authorities. 

IFRS Trustees chair Erkki Liikanen, said: “I am pleased to welcome Sheila Alrowaily, Shixin Chen and Assietou Diouf to the Trustees of the IFRS Foundation. They bring new and diverse perspectives, broad international experience and essential accounting and sustainability expertise—all of which will enhance our strategic decision-making. I would like to thank Suresh Kana, Teresa Ko, Sarah Al Suhaimi and Wencai Zhang for their contributions during a transformative time at the IFRS Foundation.” 

In September 2024, the IFRS Foundation announced a partnership with the World Bank Group to support the adoption of sustainability standards in emerging markets and developing economies.
