CPA Canada is set to enhance the professional development of Canadian chartered professional accountants (CPAs) with its new initiative, CPA Canada Connects, reported The Globe and Mail.

The upcoming virtual town hall meetings will offer monthly insights into global business trends, including economics, tax updates, and advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and sustainability.

Starting from January 2025, CPAs across Canada are invited to join these sessions, which are part of the benefits offered by the national body.

The town halls, led by CPA Canada president and CEO Pamela Steer, will feature industry experts and count towards continuing professional development hours.

This initiative is one of the many advantages for CPAs who are members of the national accounting body.

Steer said: “I am thrilled at the opportunity to showcase our organisation’s thought leadership and gain valuable insight from other industry leaders.

“But what I’m most looking forward to is engaging directly with CPAs from across the country during the question-and-answer portion of each session so we can truly focus on what is on their minds.”

CPA Canada also provides more than 200 specialised publications covering areas such as financial reporting, taxation, ethics, governance, data, AI, sustainability, and global economic issues.

All of CPA Canada’s resources, including its “award-winning” editorial content and Pivot magazine, will now be exclusively accessible behind an access wall for national body members.

The organisation is also forging strategic partnerships to aid CPAs in scaling their practices.

Membership in the national body allows CPAs to influence industry standards and foster innovation in areas such as AI, sustainability, and economic crime prevention.

CPA Canada works closely with international groups such as the International Federation of Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants to explore AI in auditing, whistleblower protection, and economic crime.

The national body also contributes to the IFRS Sustainability Knowledge Hub, guiding businesses towards sustainable practices and ensuring alignment with global standards.

In November 2024, CPA Canada reached agreements with L’Ordre des CPA du Québec and CPA Ontario regarding education, exams, and standard-setting, ensuring access to resources such as the CPA Canada Handbook and Board Guidance for the profession and public protection.
