Georgia State University’s J. Mack Robinson College of Business (Robinson) is set to launch a new artificial intelligence (AI)-driven accounting programme in autumn 2025.

Called Master of Interdisciplinary Studies (MIS) in Data Science and Accounting, the programme aims to equip graduates with advanced skills in data science and AI, addressing the evolving needs of the accounting industry.

The programme was developed with input from over 80 external stakeholders, including recruiters and senior leaders.

As AI becomes integral to accounting workflows, firms are increasingly seeking talent to leverage data analytics for enhanced decision-making and process optimisation.

The programme’s curriculum features ten courses that include four core courses in data science focused on AI and data analytics, and four core courses in accounting that ensure technical expertise and CPA licensure eligibility.

Additionally, a capstone course integrates accounting and data science, and an elective allows students to tailor their learning to specific career goals.

Robinson director of the School of Accountancy Peter Demerjian said: “The accounting profession is at a critical juncture, undergoing dramatic changes driven by technological innovation, talent shortages, and the need for succession planning.

“These changes create significant opportunities for graduates who possess technical accounting expertise alongside data science and AI skills. This programme is tailored to prepare students for impactful careers in this new era of accounting.”

In a separate development earlier in December 2024, Ernst & Young (EY) launched the EY Academy in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, marking its entry into the MENA region.

Located in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Al Khobar, the academy offers bespoke programmes for both public and private sector entities to upskill and reskill staff.

These programmes focus on critical areas such as finance and accounting, leadership, data and AI, and sustainability.
