The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) have renewed their memorandum of understanding (MoU) for another three years.

This move is aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two organisations, advancing their professions globally.

Under the renewed MoU, signed by IIA president and CEO Anthony Pugliese and ACCA CEO Helen Brand, the focus will be on supporting members’ careers, improving governance practices, and serving the public interest.

Pugliese said: “This collaboration allows us to leverage our combined expertise to better serve our members and the broader profession.

“Together, we can continue to drive significant progress in internal auditing and governance to advance the public interest.”

Brand added: “Over the years we have formed a strong relationship with The IIA which continues to benefit both memberships.

“I am delighted this will continue and look forward to building on what we’ve achieved with collaboration on shared research, events and other initiatives.”

The agreement emphasises joint research on topics including cybersecurity, technology evolution, diversity, and ESG.

In 2022, the IIA and ACCA collaborated on a report addressing emerging trends and business transformation impacts on internal controls.

In the upcoming year, the organisations plan to release new research on applying internal control concepts to sustainability and non-financial data.

The organisations are also promoting each other’s qualifications and initiatives.

The IIA will continue offering ACCA members a chance to earn the Certified Internal Auditor designation through a challenge exam.

Since 2015, more than 5,000 ACCA members have attained this credential.

This partnership aims to advance internal auditors’ roles in emerging areas crucial to corporate governance and public trust.

In November 2024, Wolters Kluwer collaborated with the IIA’s Internal Audit Foundation for a report on generative AI in internal audit activities.
