Chartered Accountants ANZ (CA ANZ) has released an insight paper titled ‘Future-Proofing Finance: Business Partnering Insights for Chartered Accountants.’

It discusses the evolving role of CFOs and their collaboration with Chartered Accountants (CAs) to drive forward-looking discussions, manage risks, and influence value creation through data-driven decision-making.

The paper offers a perspective on what business partnering entails for CAs nowadays, emphasising the application of AI-powered financial modelling and the shaping of environmental, social, and governance programmes.

Interviews with CAs are featured within the paper, revealing their strategies for tech-enabled business partnering.

This includes the use of dashboards, generative AI, robotic process automation, and other tools.

Global CFO Solutions managing director Dr Aneesha Varghese Cowan CA said: “A great finance business partner not only understands data, but also the operators who use that data. They’re not just a numbers person—they’re a people person as well.”

The insight paper also stresses the importance of maintaining a customer-centric.

The guide further discusses the key skills, traits, and behaviours that are essential for effective business partnering.

It also outlines strategies to future-proof finance departments through strategic partnerships.

These insights are said to be required for CFOs and finance functions aiming to foster genuine collaboration and make significant contributions to their organisations.

Digitalisation, with tools such as AI-powered analytics and Cloud ERP systems, has transformed the finance function.

Today’s CFOs are seen to be employing these technologies to provide real-time insights, predictive analytics, enhanced risk management, and strategic decision-making.

As automation takes over much of the transactional work in finance, the generation and analysis of big data become increasingly important, the paper says.

The insight paper anticipates numerous new opportunities for CFOs and finance teams to act as trusted strategic advisers and create value.

In October 2024, CA ANZ acknowledged the inclusion of accounting and auditing roles in Australia’s Occupation Shortage List.
